The Atelierista will also work with homeroom teachers to help them designed Reggio inspired classrooms. The atelierista helps the other teachers and the children to organize and carry out large ongoing projects as well as smaller independent activities. First, some context; I have been teaching at this school for 14 years. For the first 12 years, I had lead teacher responsibilities for a classroom, and I tried to be as helpful as I could in opening a studio for children and consulting with teachers about art. It was just last school year that I became the Atelierista 'full time' at our pre-school. An atelier and atelierista have been present in each municipal preschool since the end of the 1970s; they are an integral part of the Reggio Emilia Approach, in continuous dialogue with the other spaces and professional profiles in the schools. The environment is the third teacher: The teacher, parent and classroom are all teachers in a Reggio environment.
